The Trail Program
The Trail Program is about encouraging healthy and safe thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, as the youth traverses the trail or journey to wellness. The Trail Program provides inpatient acute care for children and teens between the ages of 4 – 18. We are the only program in the entire state of Alaska providing this service to children under the age of 13.
Each of the program components supports the patient as they define their trail or journey through the program. With each successful completion of the trail’s program components, mile markers are earned which can be turned into positive rewards for completing the map of their journey. The Trail encourages patients and families to focus on learning, communication, positive coping skills and strengthening of the family core.
At the acute setting we offer evidenced based care practices which include: Trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy; trauma informed psychoeducational group curriculum, the S.E.L.F Model (Safety, Emotion, Loss, Future); experiential therapy with activity and recreational based groups; cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety, depression and anger control; aggression reduction therapy; stress management groups and yoga classes. Evidence-based practices are tailored to patient age and developmental ability. In addition to the structured groups we utilize comfort carts and sensory items to assist patients needing extra support with de-escalation.
